Dofasco Inc. has strengthened its long-standing partnership with
McMaster University by providing financial support for research totalling $2
million. The funding, will create two permanently
endowed research chairs, the first in Ferrous Metallurgy, the second in Process
Automation and Information Technology.

The technology required to keep every
department in a steel operation running smoothly will be the focus of the
Dofasco Chair in Process Automation and Information Technology. Techniques
utilized to improve quality and meet economic goals in day-to-day operations
include advanced computer control, real-time optimization and scheduling, and
methods for extracting and using information from large computer databases.
