Dear Alumni, Colleagues and Friends:

On behalf of the department, I would like to thank you for participating this exciting homecoming event. It was great talking to you all. Many of us have not seen each other for a long time. This event brought up a lot of good memories and refreshed friendships. Indeed, it’s like “yesterday, once more” with “every shalalala every whoaohohoh still shinning.”
Once again, we congratulate Drs. Crowe, Baird, Hamielec, Hoffman, and Woods, for the first history book of our department. I trust you all agree with me that we have a wonderful department that has a glorious history with many superstars in both teaching and research areas. We thank those for earning the department the highest reputation.
The department has experienced many changes since 1982. This is particularly true over the recent years with many retired and recruited. At the present, we have about 350 in-course undergraduates and 80 postgraduates, with annual research support close to six million. However, the most important part of the department remains unchanged, that is, the excellence of teaching and research and the best collegiality. With all the young and dynamic people, we are repeating the history!
Please find the attached photos taken at the book launch. I hope each of us has a fine collection of memories that last for years. I wish you a successful career and a happy life. Please keep us updated with your progresses. The department loves to hear from you and to learn suggestions for constant improvement.
Yours sincerely,

Shiping Zhu
Professor and Chair
